GHS Volleyball - Open Gym & Tryouts Information
Grafton Volleyball 2025 season: The pursuit of a State Championship!
Open Gyms are Wednesday - 3:00-5:00 until school gets out.
Summer Open Gyms (2 days a week)
Mon - Wed morning (8:00-10:00) open gyms start.
1. Skill Development: Focus on improving individual skills such as serving, passing, setting, hitting, and blocking. Emphasis on technique and consistency.
2. Team Chemistry: Enhance teamwork and communication on the court. Develop strategies for effective play and coordination during matches.
3. Physical Fitness: Build overall fitness, including strength, agility, and endurance. Incorporate conditioning exercises to improve performance.
4. Mental Toughness: Foster a positive mindset and resilience. Work on handling pressure and maintaining focus during games.
5. Game Strategy: Develop and refine game plans and tactics. Study opponents and prepare for different match scenarios.
6. Leadership and Sportsmanship: Encourage leadership qualities and good sportsmanship among players. Promote a supportive and respectful team environment.
· Find some camps or some showcases to attend.
· ODU, CNU, W & M, Club 757, ECVC, CHR /VA Wave…
· Returners, Start thinking about recruiting emails to coaches.
· Future planning -We are going back to Division 4
· Tryouts are Aug. 4th 8:00-11:00am
· New Physicals are now accepted dated after May 1st 2025 for next season. Current one is good thru June 30th
· We are refinishing the gym floors…(MS Gym June 18-July 4th, HS Gym July 11-20th)
If you do not dress out for PE and give effort, DO NOT COME TO OPEN GYM!!!
Open Gym Team Talk Expectations
1. Respect the Gym and Each Other
· Treat the space, equipment, and every player with respect—whether teammate or competitor.
· Clean up after yourself, help set up and break down when needed.
2. Bring Game-Like Intensity
· This isn’t a casual pickup session—treat every rep with purpose.
· Hustle, communicate, and compete like it’s match day.
3. Hold Each Other Accountable
· Give and receive feedback positively.
· Push your teammates to improve—iron sharpens iron.
4. Be Coachable and Growth-Focused
· Leave ego at the door. Be open to feedback from peers and coaches.
· Mistakes are part of learning—make them at full speed and learn from them.
5. Energy and Communication
· Talk on the court. Energy is contagious—bring yours every time.
· Encourage, hype, and lead by example, whether you’re on or off the court.
6. No Drama, No Excuses
· Open gym is a place to build—not tear down.
· If you’ve got a problem, solve it with effort and attitude.
7. Come Prepared
· Hydrated, rested, and with the right gear and mindset.
· Don’t show up late & don’t waste your reps!
